Here we go again....

Ok, so this whole California prop 8 thing is making CRAZY! Did you hear a judge for the second time has now overturned it. Whether or not you agree or disagree with proposition 8, I have to say I am most burned by the fact that a judge has once again gone against the votes of the people. I will be the first to admit that I am still learning the ins and outs of politics but to me this makes zero sense! I love that our country has some "fail-safes" to avoid anyone getting too much power like the house of represenatives and senate but what good are they when people vote in favor of something and in a few minutes it can be overturned by a single individual. I feel there is SO much wrong with this! Also, this is the second time! How many times do we have to go over this!
It gets me thinking about this documentary that I recently saw the preview about proposition 8. It talks about Mormons taking over the world because they (along with the whole California State Christian Coalition-they fail to mention this) raised money and awareness to support the cause. I had to laugh for a moment. Are they aware that only 1.79% of Californians are even members and not all members are going to even vote the same! Over 50% of total voters voted in favor of banning same-sex marriages....the numbers obviously don't add up.
Again, this is a sensitive subject and I have friends and family members that stand on BOTH sides of this issue, however, if one solitary judge has the ability to overturn a decision voted on by the people, for the people, how is THAT "constitutional"? My concern is that once we start allowing one person to make (or change) our decisions for us, our country can no longer be "ours".
I encourage everyone to get educated about this. It may seem like this is a "California" issue but we have all heard the addage "as California goes, so does the nation". Something to look forward to.

I did watch this on the news tonight and seriously, I could feel disgust flow through my body. I agree with you 100%. It almost appears as though the judge is restoring "people's rights" just to stick to the "mormons" I know that is not what was said, but we sure have gotten a lot of slack because of all the support for prop 8 by members involvement.

I agree with you 100%! I wanted to watch that documentary just to see how bad it was. I think its ridiculous that they single out the Mormon church for supporting the cause.

I think one thing that really gets me is that the Judge who decided the case is gay. The correct thing to do would have been for him to step down, Knowing that there was no way he could have an honest bias. I feel so legal, Kurtis's law books are rubbing off on me.
